Recipe for a shortage of doctors: the Medoma app designed by Terveystalo was awarded as the best digital service and company
Gold! Terveystalo's Medoma app was awarded Best Company in the Services category, Best Digital Service and Best Service Design in the Grand One 2023 competition, where the best in digital services compete nationwide. Terveystalo's Medoma app acts as a prescription for doctor shortages by placing the right professional in the right role and reducing the administrative work associated with the employment relationship.
The shortage of healthcare professionals is a national and global problem that affects both private and public healthcare. Many welfare areas are struggling to cope with a growing shortage of care, and already tired health professionals are quitting and moving on. In particular, it is difficult to find staff in remote areas.
– Terveystalo serves all welfare areas and we supply doctors, dentists and other health professionals to places such as health centres and emergency departments. To meet the needs of the public health sector, we need to manage the work and shifts of thousands of professionals. Over the years, we have built up a solid knowledge base and a vision to modernise these operations in a user-oriented way," says Petri Bono, Chief Medical Officer at Terveystalo.
The solution is Medoma: an app that brings work and people together, leaving more time for patient care
The Medoma app, launched in 2022, was developed to help with administrative work. It allows the right patient and doctor to meet smoothly, and the time freed up from administrative work can be used for the well-being of professionals.
– The free downloadable mobile app allows all doctors, dentists and soon also nurses in the wellbeing areas working with Terveystalo to find and book their shifts, sign off on shifts and, for example, indicate when they are available. The app will bring together all of Terveystalo's public health services, both longer periods of work and individual shifts," continues Petri Bono.
The jury of the Grand One 2023 competition praised Terveystalo's Medoma app for a high-quality service that solves a real societal problem and that, as it expands, can help to alleviate more and more of the healthcare crisis.
Supportive intelligence at its best: an algorithm helps by providing just the right jobs
The Medoma app makes it easy for healthcare professionals to manage their employment. Throughout the development of the app, the need for a user-centric solution was a clear focus. The app was developed together with doctors and nursing staff.
– We wanted to offer users the possibility to find and book the right shifts easily. The Medoma app learns about the user's preferences, based on their shift history, for example, and offers them more and more suitable work options in the future. By offering the right jobs, we aim to increase the number of hours worked by professionals and meet the growing demand for services," says Petri Bono.
The Medoma app can be downloaded for free from app stores and the number of users has been steadily increasing every month.
